Please join us at Mass on the weekend of September 11 and 12 for the annual mission weekend for our sister parish in Peru. Fr. Joe Uhen, pastor at Santisimo Sacramento, will be speaking at all the Masses during the homily. Unfortunately, due to Covid, instead of being here in person he will be sending a video about the work he and his staff have been doing during the pandemic. Covid has hit Peru very hard and vaccines are not widely available to the general population. Fr. Joe purchased oxygen tanks and his medical staff has provided life-saving oxygen to 400 patients during the worst times. This past year more than 3300 people received medical care at no cost. 110 students are currently enrolled in the Trade School with 31 nursing students ready to graduate by year end. The parish school (K thru 12) and the trade school are still operating virtually. SJV sponsors 146 families in the Family to Family program with monthly food deliveries. The 70 girls at the Mother of the Redeemer home are happy as ever. Santisimo Sacramento has in-person Masses daily and continues providing faith formation to First Communion and Confirmation students. Fr. Joe visits the home-bound and hospitalized patients and provides spiritual counseling to all who visit the parish.
Padre Joe has written “Every month we are very grateful for the generous donations sent from St. John Vianney that allow us to provide works of mercy. The monthly aid that is sent to us continues to make the Gospel stories come to life as people’s lives are lifted up and renewed.” A second collection will be taken at each of the Masses to support Fr. Joe’s mission work at Santisimo Sacramento. Members of the International Twinning committee will be in the narthex after each Mass to answer questions. Treats and beverages will be served. Thank you to the St. John Vianney community for your generous and prayerful support of Fr. Joe and the Santisimo Sacramento ministries since 2013. We look forward to the future when we can safely send missionaries to Piura and Fr. Joe can again visit our parish. Until then, your prayers and support are greatly appreciated. Muchas gracias!
Though he can’t travel to SJV or our missionaries to Piura yet, our twinning relationship with Santisimo Sacramento continues to help the families living in extreme poverty through the Family to Family program, Trade School Scholarships and more. Members of the International Twinning Committee will be in the narthex to answer questions after each Mass.
