As Catholics we value parish life. It is not at the Vatican nor in the Archdiocesan Offices that the reality of Church life take place. It all happens on the local scene. So it is most important that we all feel part of the parish of our choice. In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholics are allowed to join any parish they like regardless of residence. There are no real “parish boundaries” anymore. I like that policy because it allows us to find a parish that feeds us spiritually, to become a part of that community, and to grow in our faith as a result.
It is also true that we Christians have the very bold teaching that God lives within each one of us. Whatever we do to the least of our brothers or sisters we do to Christ. Wherever two or three gather in Christ’s name there He is present. And so again it is of paramount importance that we nurture our relationships one with another so as to experience something of God in this unique way. We do that as we share in the life of our parish and particularly as we reach out from there to the world around us.
Saint John Vianney Parish is a large suburban congregation with lots of life and lots of activity. As you look through the pages of this website I think you will be as amazed as I often am as pastor at the wealth of opportunities for all of us to grow in our faith and celebrate that faith together.
There are over 8,000 registered parishioners at SJV and many more people who are affiliated with us in some other way. It is possible to come and go unnoticed but much better to participate and be recognized among us. The pastoral staff, support staff, active members, and I all look forward to meeting you personally as that opportunity presents itself.
